Belinda's ideal summer day out and about in Suffolk

Suffolk has so much to offer and it really is my favourite place, but where to start! I have been thinking about my ideal day out in Suffolk making sure to include a visit to Sutton Hoo. My favourite things to do include a long dog walk, a swim and ends with a meal at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall.

Whether you are local to Suffolk or visiting for the summer, Shingle Street, Sutton Hoo and Orford are all close together and perfect for a day trip. I would start my day with a long dog walk along the river in the quaint village of Orford, where you can also see Orford Castle which dates back to 1165. Then of course, you must have breakfast at The Pump Street Bakery after your walk; here you can buy some of their famous Pump Street Bakery Chocolate.

You might like to cool off with a swim after this, so head to the beach 10 minutes away and you’ll arrive at my favourite place, Shingle Street. I love this beach as it’s so wild and quiet, go for a swim and a relax.

For lunch, why not pack a picnic? From a simple roast chicken sandwich, or coronation chicken wrap to the delicious three rice chicken salad or fragrant filo pastry pies - get inspiration for chicken picnic recipes here.  Make sure you take your cooler box for a nice glass of rosé on the beach.

After lunch at the beach, head back and have a look around Sutton Hoo, where the famous Anglo-Saxon ship and burial site was discovered. Have a wonder around the museum and book to look around the Anglo-Saxon burial site where the ship was discovered, don’t forget to spot the Sutton Hoo Chickens roaming free in the field on your way in!

My idyllic summer day out in Suffolk would end with a meal at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall with my two daughters or my close girlfriends. Our Sutton Hoo Chicken is on the menu there, and they always offer the most wonderful meals using it. The location is great to escape to and the grounds are so peaceful with vast, old trees surrounding it. We teamed up with Milsoms to offer you the chance to win a three course meal there. The competition has now closed and thank you to everyone who took part.
